July 9, 2018 – Amazingly enough I have not succumbed to New Rat Fever in all this time and so the ratly residents still number at three. Minky is a grand old fellow at two and a half years of age and still going strong. Sadly, his son Gaspar passed away yesterday from illness leaving his owner and I both devastated.
On the mousie side of things, I still have very small numbers and no litters yet. Hopefully though I will have a tiger litter sometime soon. I have decided to specialise in hairless, tiger and texel. My grand old lady, Eventide, passed away two days ago which is really sad.
If anyone is wondering about my allergies, they seem to have receded now that the cold weather has come in. I’m actually living with two cats and this would have been unthinkable during summer. I can only hope the allergies have disappeared altogether or come summer I’ll be keeping the antihistamine companies afloat singlehandedly.
April 4, 2018 – I didn’t think it would be so soon. I’m devastated. This is a tribute to the greatest little pet and confidante I have ever had. My first rat, Nervatia… lover of chocolate drops, mother of Excalibur Rodents’ first litter, winner of many many hearts. The sweetest little girl I ever knew, who would brux even knowing I was near the cage. Who, in her later years, lost her sight and mobility but never her loving personality and tenderness. Who never objected loudly when the other rats sat on her head, even though I did. My little golden girl… I will see you again on the rainbow bridge.. wait for me – I’ll come eventually.
R.I.P. Nervatia 11/99 – 4/02 My grief knows no bounds.
This chapter in our book of life has just come to an end
Throughout the years you spent with me you were my special friend
I wonder now if there was something more I could have done
But then I realise that all things must end as they’ve begun
April 2, 2018 – Say hello to Excalibur Rodents’ newest residents Bob and Jay. I was not intending on getting any more rats after rehoming most of my rats due to my allergies. Then one day I was in the pet shop down the road and a lady was about to hand over her half grown male rat to the store because she didn’t want him anymore. It was obvious that he was sweet, playful and loved his owner so I couldn’t let the store take him as he really needed love and attention. She had already named him Bob so I kept the name.
Meanwhile I still have Minky and Nervatia. Nervatia is very old and tired and has a large tumour so I didn’t dare put a young male in with her to harass her, therefore Bob needed a friend. Enter Jay, a very sweet young silverfawn bred by a young lady on the Gold Coast. I guess rats are just not going to leave my life without a fight! I will just need to stock up on antihistamines for years to come.
January 28, 2018 – I redesigned the page! I thought the old design was getting a bit too tired and gave it a bit of a spring clean.
January 9, 2018 – Due to a server meltdown, this website has been inaccessible for quite a while. I apologise for any inconvience this has caused, and thankyou to everyone who has written and phoned about it.
January 1, 2018 – Well the unthinkable has happened and I’ve become severely allergic to many things, including anything with fur it seems. Most of my beloved rats have had to find new homes so that I don’t have a ton of cages to clean and I only have the old and infirm left. Thankyou to everyone who is fostering my babies, you really helped me out in a pinch.
